If I had a dime for every nickel I’ve spent—
forget it. I never was any good at math.
Each dime is a drop of water, and I dream
of it sliding cool and thin down my throat.
But then I’d be weighted down, even more
than I am now, even less able to achieve
lift-off of any kind, even more earthbound.
If I had enough dimes, though, I could buy
a space station and a launcher to get there.
Or I could pour them all into a dime room,
swim and dive in them like Scrooge McDuck.
I bet that’s sublime, too. And changing.

Great piece … nod to be being featured!
Thanks! And yes, it’s a dream come true. And now I’m having trouble accessing the website. 😦
I love the vision of diving into all that money, but coming up for breath, lol.
Thanks, Jacqueline! I used to love those comic books, and I keep wondering if my kids will get into the revamped Duck Tales show. 🙂
Love the analogy. Wonderful poem!
Well deserved, Marilyn! Don’t shortchange yourself and think this fortuitous event couldn’t happen twice. All of your entries are strong!
