Happy to report that the little tree still stands, and just had some branches trimmed … glad I didn’t write a sappy poem about it being cut down. 🙂

Thank you so much! I hope to return to longer poems soon, but I figured this short one would beat not writing one at all. 🙂

  1. Oh my god…I am rolling on the floor! We’ve had a road crew outside my house for what seems like ages…not quite sure what they’re doing…other than burning thru my tax dollars, oh…they are, of course, finding fantastic and original new ways to drop the eff bomb 🙂

They did … and then they moved on a couple of days later. Our neighbor came home and was quite surprised to find branches cut down from her trees. Apparently it was an electric company thing, and they didn’t give her notice first.

  2. Thanks so much, everyone! It was making me really anxious because I love this little tree and have written about it before (and we don’t own it, and thus don’t control its fate). Cardinals sit in it, and we use it to check whether it’s raining — because the trunk gets shiny. But I wanted to avoid a sort of “Don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone” folky-type lament, in part because I was pretty sure they were just clipping some branches that were on the power lines, so then I would feel like a bit of a dope. But I couldn’t write about anything else other than the tree trimming while I was so anxious about it, and while the tree guys were so very, very present, so this is what we got! 🙂
